International visitors to Japan exceeded 10 million fastest ever, adding 3.5 million in March 2025

Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of international visitors to Japan in March 2025 was up 13.5% year on year to record-high 3,497,600 for March. The total for the first three months of 2025 reached 10.5 million, exceeding 10 million fastest ever.  

JNTO said that visitors from many source markets increased in the cherry blossom season, and An increase in muslim travelers from Southeast Asia and Middle East after Ramadan.

The largest origin market was South Korea with 691,700 (up 4.3% year on year), followed by China with 661,700 visitors (up 46.2%), Taiwan with 522,900 visitors (up 7.9%), U.S. with 342,800 visitors (up 18.2%) and Hong Kong with 208,400 visitors (down 9.9%). 

Visitors from six source markets, such as U.S. to Canada, were record-breaking on a single month basis, and those from 11 source markets, such as Taiwan or Thailand, reached record-high for for March. Visitors from all major source markets were record-breaking in total for the first three months of 2025.
