JAL has changed boarding orders for wide-body aircraft of domestic flights to enable passengers to board more smoothly, based on the results from a joint research with Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Group 1 and 2 for priority boarding is not changed. Group 3 is changed from the 40th seat and later and exit row seats to the 40th seat and later and window seats of A and K and exit row seats. Group 4 is changed from the 20th seat and later to rest of all seats. Group 5 is abolished.
In addition, usage of the boarding bridges is changed from class-based boarding to seat row-based boarding for economy class if two boarding bridges are used. JAL expects that the new way enables to ease jamming-up around doors.
In the joint research, JAL and Tokyo Institute of Technology measure the movements of passengers during boarding with a 360-degree camera installed on board and built a unique boarding simulation model from the data obtained.
For international flight passengers, JAL has started offering personal boarding guidances in addition to conventionally flight status on the most-used message app LINE. Delivery of personal boarding guidance used be available on e-mail or JAL app only.
