Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of Japanese overseas travelers was down 84.2% year on year to 3,174,200 in 2020, plunging from record-high 20 million in 2019.
In December 2020 only, the result was down 98.1% to 33,000 year on year.
According to OAG, an aviation date provider, international flight departures from six major airports in Japan (Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo) were down 86.5% to 2,994 in December, and available seats were also down 86.7% to 691,097.
