JTB has just started the electric ticket service ‘PassMe!’ exclusively for smart phone users in tie-ups with Paypal. This is the JTB’s first service to complete a leisure ticketing process from information gathering to purchase of tickets and admission with electric stamp certificate.
JTB explained that PassMe! is a new challenge for JTB to catch up on the daytrip leisure business, as JTB has 8.9 billion JPN or a share of 2.8% only in the daytrip leisure market with a value of 313 billion JPN.
Joined by 234 property members, the service offers 520 different plans as of July 23 2015, and JTB has goals of 3,000 property members and 6,000 different plans for 100,000 users and sales of 300 million JPN a year by the end of 2015 and 5,000 property members and 15,000 different plans for annual sales of 8,000 million JPN.
Although JTB today provides a ticketing service on convenience stores’ terminals, it has recognized that transition from paper ticketing to online selling and reduction of cost burden for members are required to expand the business.
One of the strengths for PassMe! is that a user can make a payment not only on credit card but also on Paypal account with its standard customer services. JTB said that Paypal is a strong partner to exploit a new market.
Another original function is that display or erasure of a ticket certificate on smart phone can be done by an electric stamp only, which is leased from JTB to property members without charge. Also, JTB provides property members with marketing data of buyers and a function to send information on PassMe! Sales commission is 10%.
JTB has an idea to extend the service to the inbound travel market as well as the domestic travel market, taking advantage of the Paypal’s global network. In FY2017, multi-languages service may be offered.
PassMe! has four service concepts for consumers: easy search, low price, easy use and admission and sharing ticket with companions on LINE or e-mail. A variety of functions, such as ticket control display, review posting, news delivery by residence or recommendations by users, are also included.
Property members can set up 10% discount on average or up to 70% discount. JTB has an idea to offer a package of tickets, coupon ticket or selectable ticket in the future. Also, it may be possible to develop the service for the activity booking site ‘asoview!’ that has a business tie-up with JTB.
