The Japanese government adopted the Regulatory Reform Council’s report on June 2 2016. The report specifies that permitted business days a year for both host-living and host-not-living vacation rentals must be appropriate days within 180 days or less. Exact days will be fixed in the future, paying attention to rules in foreign countries and conditions of competition with existing hotels and ryokans.
At the discussion meeting for vacation rental services organized jointly by Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and Japan Tourism Agency, the licensed properties under the current Hotel Business Law and the room rental providers were against 180 days a year.
The Japanese government aims to pass a new bill on vacation rental by the end of FY2016 ending March 31 2017 after concrete contents including exact business days are fixed.
