Based on official statistics data in 2016, Japanese travelers increased by 0.4% to 1,488,396 for Hawaii and by 4.3% to 6,531,000 for Okinawa, but decreased by 3.5% to 745,691 for Guam on a year-on-year basis.
Japanese travelers for Okinawa broke the previous year’s record for two years in a row, and for Hawaii turned from year-on-year reduction in 2015 to year-on-year growth in 2016. Japanese travelers for Guam reduced for four years in a row, however the reduction rate had been smaller since 2014.
