JR East a Japanese railway operator., has started a pilot program ‘JR EAST Travel Concierge,’ to support travel planning for international visitors to Japan. The program is developed by Digital & Data Innovation Center (DICe), using Google’s generative AI ‘Gemini’ and Google Cloud.
JR EAST Travel Concierge consists of three functions of ‘suggesting tourist spots,’ ‘delivering information’ and ‘creating itineraries’ in addition to chat communication by generative AI.
A function to suggest tourist spots suggests attractive tourist spots personalized for a user through the chat communication. A function to deliver information answers questions or anxieties about traveling in Japan, such as unique rules or cultures. A function to create itineraries helps a user create a travel itinerary combining suggested tourist spots.
JR EAST will verify feasibility of the program based on feedbacks from international travelers.
