Japan Tourism Agency announced that domestic travel consumption by Japanese travelers was down 83.3% year on year to 1,004 billion JPY in the second quarter of 2020 (April to June 2020) under the state of emergency declaration, much higher reduction rate of 20.5% in the previous quarter.
The quarterly total comprised 664.6 billion JPY for overnight trips (-85.4%) and 339.4 billion JPY for single-day trips (-76.5%).
The total number of Japanese domestic travelers was also down 77.4% to 37.1 million, which were broken down into 16 million overnight travelers (-80.9%) and 21 million single-day travelers (-73.7%).
Travel expenditure was down 26% to 27,036 JPY a traveler a trip: 41,511 JPY for overnight trip (-23.7%) and 16,066 JPY for single-day trip (-10.3%).
