Japan Tourism Agency officially announced outlines of a travel discount program in the devastated Hokuriku. It is included in a government financial aid package of 155.3 billion JPY for the Noto Peninsula Earthquake-hit regions, which was approved in January 2024.
Targeting Ishikawa, Toyama, Fukui and Niigata prefectures, the the government supports up to 50% of travel cost a night a traveler. The limited amounts are 20,000 JPY for a one-night tour, 30,000 JPY for a two-nights or longer tour and 35,000 JPY for a tour staying in two or more prefectures.
International visitors to Japan are eligible for the program, too.
For Noto Peninsula in Shikawa Prefecture, a more generous aid program will be considered.
Japan Tourism Agency subsides to the four prefectures, and each of the prefectures supports travel companies, OTA or accommodations by paying differences of discounted prices. The program maybe run from March to late April before Golden Week period starts.
Opening date, however, has not decided yet. when it is decided, the details will be announced on each of the official prefectural websites.
