Osaka Prefecture will raise the accommodation tax rates in September 2025, expected tax revenue will increase to 8 billion yen a year

Osaka Prefecture has amended part of the prefecture’s accommodation tax ordinance to raise the lowest targeting accommodation price and the tax rates on September 1 2025.

The lowest targeting accommodation price will be lowered from 7,000 yen a night to 5,000 yen a night. The tax rates will be risen from 100 yen a night to 200 yen a night for the price range from 5,000 yen to 15,000 yen a night, from 200 yen a night to 400 yen a night for the price range from 15,000 yen to 20,000 yen a night and from 300 yen a night to 500 yen a night for the prices of 20,000 yen or higher.

The amendment was passed by the Prefectural Assembly in November 2024 and approved by Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications on February 18 2025. Osaka Prefecture expects that the amendment will allow the prefecture to increase tax revenue from 2.5 billion yen a year in 2023 to 8 billion yen a year.
