Japan Tourism Agency announced that the total amount of Japanese travel consumption in Japan was up 14.6% year on year to record-high 25.1 trillion yen in 2024 (up 14.5% over 2019), which exceeded the goal of 22 trillion yen in Tourism Nation Promotion Basic Law. The total consisted of 20.3 trillion yen for overnight trips (up 18.4% over 2019) and 4.8 trillion yen for day trips (up 0.5% over 2019).

The total number of Japanese travelers in Japan was up 8.4% year on year to 540 million (down 8.2% over 2019). Overnight travelers were up 4.2% to 293 million (down 6.0% over 2019), and day travelers were up 13.9% to 246 million (down 10.6% over 2019).
Travel spending a travel per traveler was up 5.8% year on year to record-high 46,579 yen (up 27.9% over 2019). It was up 5.8% to 69,336 yen for overnight trip (up 24.7% over 2019) and up 2.4% to 19,491 yen for day trip (up 12.4% over 2019).
Spending per traveler was record-high for quarter
For Q4 of 2024 (October to December 2024),the total amount of Japanese travel consumption in Japan was up 14.1% year on year to 6.4 trillion yen (up 27.9% over 2019), which consisted of 5.3 trillion yen for overnight trips (up 35.4% over 2019) and 1.1 trillion yen for day trips (up 1.6% over 2019).
Travel spending a travel per traveler was up 9.1% year on year to 50,680 yen (up 33.8% over 2019). It was up 11.0% to 74,807 yen for overnight trip (up 31.4% over 2019) and up 3.0% to 20,141 yen for day trip (up 16.0% over 2019).
