Kyoto Convention Bureau announced that a share of foreigners’ overnights in Kyoto was up 6.4 points year on year to 36% of the total in May 2015, which represented monthly growths for five months in a row or 30% or higher for four months in a row. The occupancy rate was up 3.3 points to 92% overall.
On an overnight room basis, East Asia was the biggest market with 27,763 rooms (+47.9%), followed by Europe with 21,173 rooms (+29.1%), North America with 14,649 rooms (+18.6%), Southeast Asia with 5,042 rooms (+13.3%), Oceania with 4,547 rooms (+10.3%), Middle East with 1,635 rooms (+63%) and Latin America with 1,410 rooms (-3.6%).
By country, China was the top market with increase of 127.6% to 11,868 rooms (a share of 15.2%). The large growths were found in Canada with increase of 143.6% to 2,638 rooms (a share of 3.4%), Turkey with increase of 257.8% to 365 rooms, Saudi Arabia with increase of 177.4% to 86 rooms and UAE with increase of 100% to 48 rooms.
