Teikoku Data Bank reported that the number of closed hotels and ryokans for the first nine months of 2021 was 143, already more than the last year or the most in the last decade. The number of closed travel agencies increased from 40 a year ago to 71.
Three out of all seven categorized industries saw increases in closes, and closes in the transportation and communication category were up 5.8% year on year to 531 for the first nine months of 2021.
As a whole, closed companies were down 3.7% year on year to 41,761 nationwide, and bankrupted companies also reduced from 6,047 a year ago to 4,534.
Teikoku Data Bank explained that a variety of governmental financial supports related to COVDI-19 have propped up small and middle-sized companies.
If the trend continues in the rest of 2021, the number of closed companies is expected to reduce from 56,103 last year to 55,000 to 56,000 in the full yea of 2021.
