Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) announced that the sales of the 50 major Japanese travel agents amounted to 435.5 billion JPY in April 2018, 7.4% more than FY2016. The annual total consisted of 149.9 billion JPY for the outbound travel business (+13.8%), 27.7 billion JPY for the inbound travel business (+19.7%) and 257.9 billion JPY for the domestic travel business (+2.9%).
The graphs below show the outbound travel business results of the top five travel agents (12 JTB group companies, six H.I.S. group companies, three Hankyu Travel group companies, 13 KNT-CT group companies, NTA). Among them, H.I.S. group and Hankyu group resulted in 20% ore more growths.

JTB group achieved the most sales with 10 billion JPY in the past year, and H.I.S. group ended April with a 70% increase in sales.
The graphs below show the domestic travel business results of the top five travel agents (12 JTB group companies, Rakuten, 13 KNT-CT group companies, NTA, Hankyu) for the past year. Hankyu was ranked 5th for the first time in the past year. Rakuten resulted in a 15% increase in sales.
The sales of package tour brand products totaled 100.7 billion JPY (+1.7%) with 2,753,952 customers (-4.5%) in April 2018. The breakdown was 27.1 billion JPY (+6.4%) with 131,107 customers (+1.1%) for the outbound travel business, 893 million JPY (-13.1%) with 62,815 customers (-2.8%) for the inbound travel business and 72.7 billion JPY (+0.2%) with 2,560,030 customers (-4.8%) for the domestic travel business.
The outbound travel market was boosted by higher demand for Europe and in the first half of the Golden Week holiday period. In the inbound travel market, demand of MICE was particularly high.
