Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) announced that the sales of the 50 major Japanese travel agents amounted to 376.3 billion JPY in January 2018 (+3.2%), which consisted of 144 billion JPY for the outbound travel business (+8.3%), 14 billion JPY for the inbound travel business (+10.3%) and 218.3 billion JPY for the domestic travel business (-0.3%).
The graphs below show the outbound travel business results of the top five travel agents (25 JTB group companies, six H.I.S. group companies, three Hankyu Travel group companies, 11 KNT-CT group companies, NTA). Among them, H.I.S. especially did better business with a year-on-ye growth of 16.6%.

The sales of package tour brand products totaled 96.3 billion JPY (-0.9%) with 2,518,170 customers (-4.5%) in January 2018. The breakdown was 30.1 billion JPY (+3.8%) with 165,820 customers (-7.2%) for the outbound travel business, 500 million JPY (-6.7%) with 33,347 customers (+4.7%) for the inbound travel business and 65.8 billion JPY (-2.9%) with 2,319,003 customers (-5.3%) for the domestic travel business.
According to the travel companies, the outbound travel market was particularly boosted by high demands for Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The inbound travel market was particularly vitalized by increases in visitors from China and Thailand. The business result for domestic travel was overall damaged by heavy snow in the middle of January.
