The Google search ranking for UNESCO World Heritages in Japan finds that Himeji Castle in Hyogo Prefecture was No.1, followed by Koya-san in Wakayama Prefecture and Gunkan-jima in Nagasaki Prefecture.
The number of searches for Himeji Castle dramatically increased following reopening in March 2015 after the renovation program for a long time completed. Koya-san will specially unveil the enshrined God in autumn this year celebrating the 1,200th anniversary of its opening. Gunkan-jima was just recommended by International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) as one of the sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution for registration to UNESCO World Heritage.
