Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of international visitors in Japan in February 2023 was 1,475,300, which were almost the same as January 2023, but still 43.4% fewer visitors than February 2019. Visitors from some source markets, such as Singapore or Middle East, were more than 2019.
The largest source market was South Korea with 568,600 visitors(down 20.6% over 2019), followed by Taiwan with 248,500 visitors (down 37.8%), Hong Kong with 119,400 visitors(down 33.4%), U.S. with 86,900 visitors (down 6.2%) and Thailand with 73,300 visitors (down 32%).
According to OAG, international flights arriving in six major airports in Japan (Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo) were up 275.5% year on year to 10,721 and available seats were up 263.9% to 2,563,140 in total. International flight arrivals extended to 14 local airports, including Hakodate and Aomori.
