
Tourism Commission of Hakuba Village, Nagao Prefecture, announced that the number of tourists visiting the world-famous winter resort village in Japan was up14% year on year to record-high 1.3 million during the winter season between November 2024 and February 2025. Out of the total, visitors to ski resorts reached about 890,000, out of which international visitors accounted for 46%.
After a new ski resort opened in November 2024, visitors were 263,600 in December 2024, 480,200 in January 2025 and 472,100 in February 2025. The increase in visitors partially resulted from more snowfall than usual.

By resort, visitors increased by 9% in ‘White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka,’ by 3% in ‘Hakuba Happo-one Snow Resort’ and by 47% in ‘Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field, where a new gondola opened.
Meanwhile, the tourism commission said that international visitors who did not enjoy snow activities also increased. Part of snow resorts opened the selected ski lifts for non-skiers.
