Japanese outbound travelers remained 70% of the 2019 level with 1.2 million in September 2024

Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) reported that the number of Japanese outbound travelers was down 30.8% to 1,212,600 in September 2024 compared to the same month 2019. Compared to a year ago, the monthly result was up 20.7%. The numbers for the first nine months of 2024 totaled 9,496,500.

According to OAG, international flights departing from six major airports in Japan (Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo) were still down 4.3% to 20,461 and available seats down 3.6% to 4,770,984 compared to September 2019.

Haneda increased flights by 32.4% to 4,635 and available seats by 27.1% to 1,150,049, and Kansai International Airport recovered to a 7.3% decrease in flights and a 5.0% decrease in available seats.
