Japan Tourism Agency reported that Japanese spending to domestic travel in the second quarter of 2019 (April to June) increased by 17.1% year on year to 5.9 trillion JPY, which were divided into 4.4 trillion JPY for overnight trip (+16.4%) and 1.8 trillion JPY for day trip (+19.6%).
The growth rate by month was 6.6% in April, 23.4% in May and 20.2% in June. Spending to day trip was up 41.1% to 632.1 billion JPY in May, and spending to overnight trip up 27.9% to 1.4 trillion JPY in June.

The total number of Japanese domestic travelers was up 13.1% to 165.3 million in the second quarter of 2019, which consisted of 83.4 million overnight travelers (+19.1%) and 81.9 million day travelers (+7.6%). The average spending a traveler was down 2.3% to 53.135 JPY for overnight trip and up 11.1% to 17,963 JPY for day trip.
