Japanese travel companies still suffered from a 37.9% decrease in domestic travel sales in November 2021 compared to two years ago

Japan Tourism Agency announced that sales of 45 major travel companies decreased by 13.7% year on year to 170 billion JPY in total in November 2021. Compared to two years ago, the result was still down 61.4%.

Sales in domestic travel were down 16.5% year on year to 160.9 billion JPY (down 37.9% over two years ago) despite smaller reduction rate than 25.7% in October 2021. 

Sales in overseas travel were up 67% to 7 billion JPY (down 95.6% over two years ago). Sales in inbound travel were up 172.6% year on year to 2.9 billion JPY (down 88% over two years ago).

Sales in domestic package tours were down 56.6% year on year to 39.7 billion JPY with 1,252,050 customers (down55.2% year on year).

Among 45 travel companies, the top was JTB Group (9 companies) with sales of 71.5 billion JPY (down51.4% over two year ago). HIS (six companies) reduced sales by 89.3% to 3.7 billion JPY compared to two years ago because it largely relies on the overseas travel business. KNT-CT Holdings (13 group companies) reduced sales by 71.5% to 18.9 billion JPY over two years ago.
