The domestic travel trend survey for Japanese senior travelers from 50 to 70 years old, conducted by yukoyuko.net, the lodging booking site for senior travelers, finds that the average lodging expense a night was 12,258 JPY, 254 JPY less than a year ago.
The most popular purpose to travel was onsen or hot spring (a share of 65.2%), followed by visiting historic heritages (36.3%). The shares of both the purposes increased for four years in a row.
The usage rate of smart phones was 43.7%, a year-on-year growth for three years in a row, mainly for weather report, traffic information, map or navigation.
The survey also finds that a share of lodging booking sites for information sources was up 2.1 points to 44.9%, and the share was particularly high among 50’s females (66%). Regarding a booking way, a share of bookings on lodging homepages was up 3.2 points to 42.2%, a year-on-year growth for three years in a row.
The survey, conducted from December 8 to 14 2016, targeted 1,278 males and females nationwide who traveled in Japan in the past year.
