The 9th Japan-China-South Korea Tourism Summit was held in Incheon, South Korea on August 30 2019, joined by Keichi Ishii, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, Luo Shugang, Minster of Culture and Tourism of China and Park Yang-woo, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea.
The summit adopted a joint communique to develop mutual tourism cooperation with three pillars: Promotion of peace in Northeast Asia through tourism, Achievement of comprehensive growths in Northeast Asia through tourism and Future initiative in Northeast Asia through tourism.
With the achievement of the goal of 30 million travelers among three countries, they agreed to continue ‘Visit East Asia Campaign to increase travelers from the rest of the world to Northeast Asia. Big sports events in Northeast Asia, starting from PyeongChang Winter Olympics in 2018 to Tokyo 2020 and Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022, are placed as opportunities to develop joint tourism products for travelers from the rest of the world.
Japanese Minister Ishii met the Korean Minister before the summit to share recognition that tourism exchanges are very important for mutual understanding even though there are political issues between the two countries. Also, at the meeting with the Chinese Minister, they confirmed that it is important to increase two way young travelers to achieve a goal of 15 million travelers between the two countries.
