The tourism consumption trend survey, performed by Japan Tourism Agency, illustrates that the ratio of travel consumption to GDP in Japan was 4.6%, which was just half of 10% in Germany.
The same survey also finds that the satisfaction rate of staying in domestic destinations among Japanese domestic leisure travelers was 78%. By category, the satisfaction rates were lower in all categories than the average, and the rates for accommodation (65.7%), restaurant (55%) and souvenir (51.1%) were particularly low. Regarding accommodation, the dissatisfaction rate for disappointing room was 7.8%, which was the highest.
In addition, the survey shows 41.7% for intention to re-visit within the next year and 49% for intention to recommend to others.
