Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) announced that the sales of the 50 major Japanese travel agents amounted to 436.5 billion JPY in December 2017 (+1.0%), which consisted of 156.8 billion JPY for the outbound travel business (+4.4%), 18.7 billion JPY for the inbound travel business (+25.3%) and 260.9 billion JPY for the domestic travel business (-2.3%).

M.I.S. moved up to 2nd with a growth of 100.9% in December 2017 and became only an agent that marked a year-on-year growth through 2017.

The sales of package tour brand products totaled 103.4 billion JPY (-4.1%) with 2,639,694 customers (-6.5%) in December 2017. The breakdown was 32.1 billion JPY (+1.0%) with 159,072 customers (-0.5%) for the outbound travel business, 512.9 million JPY (+1.7%) with 41,212 customers (+20.6%) for the inbound travel business and 70.8 billion JPY (-6.2%) with 2,430,941 customers (+1.7%) for the domestic travel business.
According to the travel companies, the outbound travel market particularly benefited from high demands for Singapore and Taiwan. The inbound travel market was particularly vitalized by increases in visitors from Korea, Taiwan and China. Without three consecutive holiday in December 2017, the business result for domestic travel was lower than a year earlier.
