The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO)’s statistics for June 2017 finds that Japan received 587,200 visitors from China (+0.8%), 201,800 from Hong Kong (+23.7%), 568,900 from Korea (+63.8%) and 438,900 from Taiwan (+9.0%). Visitors from all of the markets expect China were record-high for June.
The table below shows changes of visitors from the four markets for the last 12 months:
A large increase in visitors from Korea mainly resulted from by extension of the LCC network and a positive reaction from the last year’s downturn after Kumamoto Earthquake, according to JNTO. The Taiwan market was boosted by increases in cruises and also in air capacity including charter flights for local cities of Japan. In Hong Kong, low-price products using LCC encouraged travelers to choose Japan as a holiday destination.
