The number of cross-border mobile payment ‘Alipay+’ member stores in Japan has exceeded 2 million. As 16 sorts of e-wallets and bank apps are useable in Japan through Alipay+, more international visitors to Japan use daily life payment apps even in Japan.
Payment amount with the affiliated e-wallets and bank app in Japan from March 1 to 19 2024 increased by 200% compared to the same period a year ago, and Alipay estimates that payment with the affiliated e-wallets and bank app accounted for about 10% of the total payment by Alipay users during staying in Japan.
Payment with the affiliated e-wallets and bank app in Daimaru-Matsuzakaya department store in January and February 2024 soared by more than 10 times compared to a year ago, and payment in Asakusa area in February 2024 was up more than five times compared to a year ago.
Alipay of China, AlipayHK of Hong Kong, Kakao Pay of South Korea, Touch 'n Go E Wallet of Malaysia, GCash of Philippines and TrueMoney of Thailand are more used in Japan.
