Expedia has started on trial to sell Japan’s unique hotels under the Hotel Business Act, such as capsular hotels or so-called love hotels exclusively for couples, on more than 200 Expedia.com and Hotels.com sites with 35 languages in 75 countries to meet low budget needs from international travelers to Japan. Expedia deals with the kind of leisure hotels in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.
The occupation rate of conventional love hotels is about 40% on weekdays. Beyond the exclusive category, love hotels are expected to function as a normal hotel under the Hotel Business Act to solve the current issue of shortage of accommodations in large cities.
