Japan Tourism Agency reported that the total number of guest nights in July 2024 (provisionally) was up 8.6% year on year to 59.2 million, which were also up 14.2% compared to the same month of 2019. Guest nights of Japanese travelers was up 1.9% year on year to 44.2 million (up 7.9% over July 2019), and guest nights of foreigner travelers were up 35.2% to 14.9 million (up 38.3% over July 2019).
The occupancy rate was 61.8% overall, 3.9 higher points than July 2023 or 1.5 lower points than July 2019. By type of accommodation, the rates were 35.9% for ryokans, 58.0% for resort hotels, 74.7% for budget hotels and 74.2% for city hotel.
