H.I.S. introduced a Bitcoin payment service in 9 flagship shops and 38 retail shops in Tokyo Metropolitan Area on 23 September 2017 in collaboration with bitflyer, a Bitcoin exchange. At the same time, H.I.S. started selling limited products for Bitcoin payment, such as 3 days in Seoul for 16,800 JPY or 5 days in Hawaii for 69,800 JPY.
Bitcoin is a virtual currency with a total market scale of 10 trillion JPY. Since a legal amendment took effect in April 2017, Bitcoin users and Bitcoin shops have been increasing in Japan. H.I.S. became the first Bitcoin payment service provider in the travel industry of Japan.
For H.I.S., the upper limit for a Bitcoin payment is equivalent to 2 million JPY.
