Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of international visitors to Japan in October 2024 reached record-high 3,312,000 on a single months basis, 32.7% more than the same month in 2019. The numbers for the first ten months totaled 30.2 million visitors, 12.2% more than the same period in 2019.exceeding 30 million at the fastest rate in history
The total number is expected to exceed the previous record of 31.9 million in 2019 in the next month.
The largest source market was South Korea with 732,100 visitors (up 271.1% over 2019), followed by China with 582,800 (down 20.2%), Taiwan with 478,900 visitors (up 15.8%), U.S. with 278,500 visitors (up 81.6%), Hong Kong with 198,800 visitors (up 10.1%).
Compared to a year ago, Visitors from China recovered to a 127.3% increase.
The annual number of visitors from six out of 23 core source markets were already record-high.
According to OAG, international flights arriving in six major airports in Japan (Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo) in October 2024 were 21,340, the same as October 2019, and available seats increased by 0.1% to 4,991,379 compared to October 2019.
Haneda handled 33.0% more flights (4,806) and 27.4% more available seats (1,191,064) than October 2019. Fukuoka also increased flights by 27.6% to 1,951 and available seats by 33.5% to 419,954.
Kansai International Airport recovered to a 3.8% decrease in flights and a 1.5% decrease in available seats.
