Japanese outbound travelers in October 2024 were 1.14 million, exceeding 10 million for the first time since 2019

Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) reported that the number of Japanese outbound travelers was up 22.5% year on year to 1,148,400 in October 2024, but still down 31.0% compared to the same month 2019. The numbers for the first ten months of 2024 totaled 10,644,900, the first over 10 million since 2019.

According to OAG, international flights departing from all airports in Japan recovered to a 0.8% decrease in flights (23,286) and a 0.2% decrease in available seats (5,361,891). Those from six major airports in Japan (Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo) were down 0.1% to 21,341 and available seats up 0.2% to 4,996,946 compared to October 2019.

Haneda increased flights by 32.9% to 4,803 and available seats by 27.3% to 1,190,011, and Fukuoka Airport flights by 28.6% to 1,951 and available seats by 34.9% to 421,114. Kansai International Airport recovered to a 3.9% decrease in flights and a 1.2% decrease in available seats.
