Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) reported that the number of international visitors in Japan was up 18.2% year on year, reaching 2,607,900 in March 2018 (record-high for February: 2,205,700 in March 2017).

The top market was Korea with 619,200 visitors (+26.8%), followed by China with 594,900 (+16.9%), Taiwan with 387,300 (+14.0%), and Hong Kong with 195,700 (+19.0%) visitors. Visitors from Europe, U.S.A. and Australia particularly increased due to the Easter break in the end of March this year: 151,000 from U.S.A. (+15.3%), 34,900 from Canada (+18.6%) and 24,900 from Germany (+11.1%), which were record-high on a single month basis.
Visitors from 19 targeting markets, except Indonesia, were record high for March. JNTO said that the market growth mainly resulted from extension of air network for Japan and effective promotional campaigns focusing on spring in Japan.
