Japanese GenZ value ‘onsen or sauna’ or ‘cost performance’ in their travels and prefer solo travel and short-term domestic travel

The latest Booking.com survey on travel trends of Generation Z finds that the ratio of Japanese respondents who answered ‘they value onsen or sauna’ is 49%, which is higher than 32% globally.

The survey results also find that 33% of Japanese respondents (40% globally) ‘seek robot services or AI-based touch points in accommodations.’ Solo travel seems to be preferred, as the survey results show that 45% of those (43% globally) enjoyed solo travels in the past six months, and 61% (63% globally) plan solo travels within the next 12 months. 

53% of Japanese respondents (48% globally) said that they pay attention to cost performance in choosing a destination. The ratio of those who prefer to short-term domestic travel (1 to 4 nights) is 85%, which is much higher than the global average of 59%. 47% of Japanese respondents said that they often travel in off season to save money.
