Japanese outbound travelers exceeded 1 million in July 2024 for the first time in the last four months

Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) reported that the number of Japanese outbound travelers was down 36.8% to 1,048,800 in July 2024 compared to the same month 2019, slightly better than 38.8% down in June 2024. Compared to a year ago, the monthly result was up 17.6%. 

According to OAG, international flights departing from six major airports in Japan (Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo) were still down 6.5% to 20,964 and available seats down 5.1% to 4,904,486 compared to July 2019.

Haneda increased flights by 32.2% to 4,735 and available seats by 26.1% to  1,172,213, and Fukuoka also flights by 11.7% to 1,941 and available seats by 14.3% to 409,341.
