The JTB Tourism Research & Consulting has forecasted in the latest survey report on inbound travel market trend that the number of international visitors to Japan in 2019 is expected to increase by 7.4% year on year to 33.5 million.
In the first half of 2019, visitors from South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong reduced year on year due to aftermaths of natural disasters last year, and the growth rates of visitors from China and Thailand were dull.
In the second half of 2019, JTB Tourism Research & Consulting has expected that growth of visitors from four East Asian markets will be seen again, and also World Cup Rugby beginning September 20 will be a great opportunity to increase travelers from Europe, U.S. or Australia. As a result, JTB Tourism Research & Consulting has forecasted that the growth rate in the second half may reach 7.4% (2.31 million visitors), though the growth rate is lower than 8.7% a year ago.
