Expedia announced that the top market for Japan on Expedia was Korea in the third quarter of 2016 (July to September 2016), followed by Hong Kong, U.S., Taiwan and Australia. The highest year-on-year growth was also found in Korea (+50%), followed by Taiwan and Canada (+45%) and U.S. and Singapore (+40%).
According to the Expedia data, travelers from U.S. spent more money for accommodation than others. The average nights a travel of a traveler from Australia was three nights, longer than the average of others, and the average lead time of a traveler from Australia was two months or longer.
The most popular city in Japan was Tokyo, followed by Osaka, Okinawa, Kyoto and Fukuoka. The highest growth rate was found in Hakodate (+160%), followed by Hokkaido except Sapporo, Hakodate and Niseko (+110%), Yokohama (+105%) and Kyushu except Fukuoka (+100%).
