Setouchi Triennale 2025 opens on April 18 2025, adding three new areas including Naoshima New Museum of Art

The Setouchi Triennale 2025, which has attracted attention from tourism around the world, will open on April 18, 2025. This contemporary art festival is held once every three years and attracting approximately one million visitors from Japan and abroad, and this year new three venue areas will be added. The Triennial will run for 107 days in total in spring, summer and fall separately.

The event will take place in 17 areas including islands and coastal areas of the Seto Inland Sea. The Naoshima New Museum of Art, scheduled to open on May 31, will also be a venue. 216 artists, 254 works, and 20 events are planned to participate.

The festival has the theme of "Restoring the Sea," and aims to bring back vitality to the Seto Inland Sea islands, where beautiful nature and humans have intersected and resonated, and to make the Seto Inland Sea a "sea of hope" for all regions on the planet. The festival has resonated with its style of touring the islands with art as a guide, interacting with artists, local residents, and volunteer supporters, and discovering the various charms of the region.
