Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is strengthening its tourism promotions worldwide after the martial law over the past 10 months was lifted in April 2015 to achieve a goal of 28 million international travelers including 1.39 million Japanese travelers in 2015.
Tourism industry of Thailand accounts for about 14% of GDP, according to TAT. International visitors, however, were down 6% year on year to 24.66 million in 2014, and also Japanese visitors down 18% to 1,265,000.
To pick up the international market, TAT is developing ‘Discover Thainess’ to appeal local tourism attractions, such as food, festival, dance, art or lifestyle. In addition to major destinations, TAT is introducing new local destinations to spread international tourists to local areas.
TAT Deputy Governor Juthaporn Remgronasa, who visited Japan in the middle of May, explained details about the campaign at a news conference. She also revealed that international visitors increased by 23% year on year to 7.88 million for the first three months of 2015, and Japanese visitors already reached 360,000.
Thai Ambassador to Japan Sihasak Phuangketkeow said at a news conference that you can feel safe when you visit Thailand, appealing tourists can enjoy traveling as usual.
