The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO)’s statistics in September 2016 finds that Japan received 41,100 visitors from Australia (+18.4%), 96,800 from U.S. (+26.9%) and 24,700 from U.K. (+8.8%). All of the three markets resulted in record-high for September, and visitors from U.S. recorded double-digit growths for 20 months in a row.
The table below shows changes of visitors from Australia, U.S. and U.K. in the last 12 months:
In Australia, the market was boosted by new Haneda-Sydney services by ANA after December 2015, effective local promotions and an increase in media exposures. In U.S., the market was partially motivated by the joint photo contest with National Geographic Travel, and an incentive tour with 2,000 participants in early September gave a positive impact on the market. In U.K., cheaper air tickets motivated travelers to choose Japan.
