Year-on-year comparison of visitors to Japan from Australia, U.S. and U.K. in March 2016

The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO)’s statistics in March 2016 finds that Japan received 41,800 visitors from Australia (+43.3%), 116,200 from U.S. (+21.5%) and 34,700 from U.K. (+37.7%). and 26,800 from Indonesia (+37.1%). All of the three markets resulted in record-high for March, and visitors from U.S. and U.K. were also record-high on a single month basis.

In Australia, the market was boosted by the JNTO’s several promotional campaigns for cherry blossom and information on a variety of media.

In U.S., extension of the air network and the JNTO’s promotional campaigns encouraged travelers to visit Japan.

In U.K., the high demand for cherry blossom, Easter holidays in March and port calls of cruise ships in Japan were major reasons for the large growth. According to JNTO, many travelers booked tours for March 2016 online four months or even a year before departure.
