The recent Expedia Japan survey finds that experiences of traveling alone accounted for 52% of the total. The ratio of five or more time experiences was 48%, and ten or more times 25%.
The top reason for traveling alone was that ‘I can be myself with no consideration to others (79%),’ followed by ‘I would like to pursue my hobby (30%)’ and ‘I would like to escape from reality (29%).’ The ratio of ‘I don’t feel lonely’ was 69%.
After traveling alone, many travelers had positive changes of themselves: ‘in judging or deciding alone (43%),’ ‘in having challenges (37%),’ ‘in having positive attitude (25%),’ ‘in communicating with unknown persons (20%)’ and ‘in accepting a variety of values (19%).’
The awareness survey targeted 400 20’s to 50’s males and females who have experienced traveling alone before on the first screening survey, in which experiences of traveling alone accounted for 52%.
