Hen na Hotel in Huis Ten Bosch in Nagsaki Prefecture opened the Japan’s first ‘Smart Convenience Store’ without any cashiers on May 1 2018. The cashless store is operated with a face registration and recognition system, an image recognition system and credit card payment.
You can enter the store after registering your face at the entrance. Goods you buy are accepted on the image recognition system at a payment counter, and your face is recognized again before payment by a credit card with an external terminal. Finally you leave the store after your face is recognized once again at an exit.
The store, opening from 6:00 to 26:00, sells light foods, such as sandwich, pastries, onigiri or pot noodles.
