The market survey on travel-related apps, conducted by AppAnnie, an app market data survey company, finds that downloads of travel-related apps increased by 50% worldwide in the last two years from 2014 to 2016. Times spent for travel-related apps totaled about 900 billion in the world in 2016, about 150 billion longer than 2015. An Android user, for example, spends about 2 hours a day for travel-related apps.
Times spent for travel-related apps by Japanese users increased by about 60% in the last two years. The most downloaded iOS travel app is ‘Waiting time for TDL TDS,’ which was a real time app to know waiting times of attractions in Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea. The most downloaded Android travel app was ‘Yahoo! Map.’
Jalan, a hotel search and booking app, was downloaded a lot, ranked 2nd for iOS and 3rd for Android. Also, Booking.com was ranked 7th for iOS and 9th for Android, and Rakuten Travel 9th for iOS and 8th for Android.
