Total sales of 43 Japanese major travel companies in October 2023 decreased by 23% over 2019

Japan Tourism Agency announced that sales of 43 major travel companies in October 2023 were down 22.9% to 347 billion JPY compared to the same month of 2019. Sales in domestic travel were down 8.7% to 224 billion JPY, improving from a 17.5% reduction in September 2023.

Sales in overseas travel were still down 44.4% to 97.7 billion JPY, and sales in inbound travel were down 12.8% to 25.4 billion JPY.

In comparison with October 2019, sales in domestic package tours reduced by 18.8% to 61.2 billion JPY with 1,648,709 customers (down 22.3%). Sales in overseas package tours were down 76% to 8.8 billion JPY with 26,483 customers (down 81.6%). After the pandemic, a trend to shift from group travel to FIT seemed to be strong.

The top was JTB Group with sales of 126.5 billion JPY (down 20.2%), followed by NTA with 41 billion JPY (down 5.3%), KNT-CT Holdings with 30.9 billion JPY (down 33.3%), HIS with 28 billion JPY (down 27.9%), and Hankyu with 26.7 billion JPY (down 25.2%).
