Tencent of China, operating chat app. WeChat, recently announced that they has begun providing Chinese travelers in Japan with two new services for payment information on WeChat. ‘WeChat Payment’ is operated by Tenpay, one of Tencent Group members, and WePay is an agent for the service in Japan.
Tencent is discussing with several Japanese companies, including ANA Holdings, eyeglass product supplier Paris Miki or fashion provider Baroque Japan, for tie-up with the payment service. Tencent is trying to increase retailer and website contractors with ‘WeChat Payment’ in Japan.
In the meantime, ‘JAPAN PASS’ will be released as an information service for Chinese travelers in Japan in late November 2015, providing useful information on travel in Japan, such as transportation, tourist bases, gourmet, shopping or translation service.
At the same time, ‘JAPAN PASS Shop Portal’ will be available to introduce high-quality Japanese products. In cooperation with Dentsu, the shopping site will provide Chinese travelers with a shopping opportunity before, during or even after traveling in Japan.
Tencent has an idea to strengthen partnership with ANA Group, including online sales of made-in-Japan products dealt by ANA Trading, partnership in logistics with ANA Cargo, OCS and OCS China or sales of air tickets and travel products in tie-up with ANA Holdings.
‘WeChat Payment’ and ‘JAPAN PASS’ are services to remove inconveniences that have been experienced by Chinese travelers in Japan, according to Tencent.
