Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of international visitors to Japan in February 2025 was up 16.9% year on year to 3,258,100, marking the first over 3 million in February for the first time. The result was about 2.2 times more visitors than two years ago.
The largest origin market was South Korea with 847,300 (up 3.5% year on year), followed by China with 722,700 visitors (up 57.3%), Taiwan with 507,300 visitors (up 1.0%), Hong Kong with 195,500 visitors (down 5.0%) and U.S. with 191,500 visitors (up 28.8%). Visitors from East Asia accounted for 67% of the total.
73,700 visitors from Vietnam (up22.5%) were record-high on a single month basis, and 116,800 from Singapore (up 15.1%), 88,000 from Australia (up 33.5%) and 31,400 from U.K. (up 21.3%) were record-high in February.
JNTO analyzed that the large growth mainly resulted from strong demands in Chinese New Year holidays even in early February and higher demands of winter sports in U.S. and Australia markets.
