Japan Tourism Agency announced that Japanese domestic travel consumption in the first quarter of 2019 (January to March) was down 5.3% year on year to 4,195.4 billion JPY, which consisted of 3,220.6 billion JPY for overnight travels (-4.7%) and 974.7 billion JPY (-7.3%). During the quarter, the result in March was particularly down 11.8%.

The total number of Japanese domestic travelers was down 6.4% to 119.3 million, which comprised 63 million overnight travelers (-6.7%) and 56.3 million day travelers (-5.9%). Travel unite price a traveler was slightly up 1.1% to 35,170 JPY: 51,112 JPY an overnight travel and 17,321 JPY a day travel.
